About us

Aachen rides cargo with Madame Cargo

We are absolutely thrilled about cargo bikes and want to share this passion with you. With us, you will find not only a huge selection of cool models but also plenty of tips and tricks related to cycling. Come by and let our enthusiasm inspire you! We know our models through thousands of kilometres of riding experience and can therefore help you find a cargo bike that suits your needs from our own experience.

Our goal

Our goal is to establish cargo bikes as the norm in urban landscapes while maintaining an authentic presence. We know our bikes inside and out through extensive testing in our daily lives - that’s why we understand the strengths and weaknesses of each bike.

Our motivation is to link the right cargo bike with the appropriate life situation, so that the respective needs are perfectly aligned.

Our story

What began as a family experiment became a life change – and eventually a business.

How it all began – and why everything suddenly became easier without a car

In 2015, we faced a decision: the car was broken, the repair was too expensive – so we asked ourselves if we could manage without it. Initially, it was more out of necessity than conviction. But step by step, we discovered what we truly gained: freedom, mobility, city life without stress.

When did you establish Madame Cargo? And what makes the shop special?

In 2018, we founded Madame Cargo, initially in a small 30-square-metre shop. In 2021, we moved to a 300-square-metre retail space – which was artistically designed right from the start by Huttänzer and Señor Schnu.

What do the children say? Do they really grow up in a cargo bike?

Can you manage everyday life with a child entirely on a bike?

We travelled dozens of kilometres daily with the child and shopping, became fit, frustrated, inventive – and eventually: truly excited.

What has changed – and how will it continue?

Madame Cargo has been a joint project from the very beginning – also stemming from our private lives. In the meantime, our paths as a family have changed. Sebastian has already stepped back from the day-to-day business and will soon also disappear from the company in name. We remain very grateful for his contribution to the establishment.

What remains? And what are we looking forward to?

Madame Cargo remains – alive, adaptable, full of energy and conviction. What emerged from a broken car is now a vision on two wheels. We look forward to everything that is to come. And to you, who are part of this journey – or will be.

Our team

Katharina

Founder of Madame Cargo, mother of two children – both raised in a cargo bike. The idea for the shop came directly from my everyday life: practical, challenging, convincing. I built my first cargo bike frame (from scratch) in 2024. I am rather small, but I ride every bike in the range – demonstrating daily that size is no barrier to new mobility. Additionally, I am involved with ADFC Aachen/Düren e.V. for better cycling infrastructure in our beautiful city.

We are contributing to mobility transition

because it's important to us

Together we are shaping the future of our city. With every cargo bike sold, we come a step closer to our goal of making Aachen more bike-friendly. As an active member of the ADFC Aachen/Düren e.V., we are involved in events such as the Radnacht and Kidical Mass, as well as advocating for better cycle paths that are also designed for cargo bikes. Become part of our movement and get your cargo bike now. Together, we are creating a future where cycling holds a high value.
